I am very (very!) new to home ownership, and I want to tackle my first DIY project. I’d like to put a pass-through in the wall separating my front room and kitchen. I am pretty sure the wall is a load bearing wall, and I don’t want to do structural damage. I am looking for a contractor who would consult on the project and would let me know the proper dimensions of the header and jack studs to use and also if I will need to brace the ceiling joists while I work.
