Demonstrators who opposed a day-laborer center in the District gathered yesterday outside a Northeast shopping plaza to ask authorities to disperse the mostly Hispanic day laborers who continue to gather there to look for work.

About two dozen protesters affiliated with the groups DefendDC and Help Save Maryland assembled outside the Home Depot on Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast. They were met by about 15 counterdemonstrators who showed up to support the workers.

Members of the protest group held signs and complained of crimes regularly committed by laborers, as many as 200 of whom congregate daily at the site to link up with contractors for jobs. What would the annual or monthly cost be (approx.) for liability insurance of an artisan contractor? The work is mostly commerical and home tile/grout work in kitchens and bathrooms. The business consists of just the owner/master artisan who may have 1 or 2 other people do some jobs with him. The owner is well trained and has plenty of experience. The work would be done mostly in MA and certainly within New England. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe if someone has a similar type business, they could share what their monthly or annual payments are?

He WON’T quit! No matter what the law says! My Dr. told me that I need to get out of their ASAP…or MAKE my boss quit. The obvious answer is to get a new job…BUT I have been trying. I’ve been there for 7 years…and there are no jobs in my area. Anyone know of any programs…financial assistance…maternity leave(before the baby is born..for an "independant contractor" in MA.) I obviously need to make money for my growing family but staying at my job is such a risk! ANY ADVICE PLEASE!

My husband and his best friend are looking at starting up an electrical services contracting company to wire new houses kind of as a side project to their regular jobs. We are stuck on what to name the company because everything we come up with is either too boring or already taken.
