He WON’T quit! No matter what the law says! My Dr. told me that I need to get out of their ASAP…or MAKE my boss quit. The obvious answer is to get a new job…BUT I have been trying. I’ve been there for 7 years…and there are no jobs in my area. Anyone know of any programs…financial assistance…maternity leave(before the baby is born..for an "independant contractor" in MA.) I obviously need to make money for my growing family but staying at my job is such a risk! ANY ADVICE PLEASE!

Specifically, when the internship or "contractor" job ends, how long does he have to find a new job, sponsor, or leave the country? Does he or she have the option to stay and change the visa to a work visa? If so, how long can they remain unemployed after the first contractor job ends before they are out of status? And can they change status to a business or "investor" visa from a J1 or other student visa (He was NOT on a H1b with an employer sponsor).
I originally asked the question thinking he was here with an employer sponsored H1b, but found out this was not the case, he was just a student who arranged a summer internship through the school in his last semester of his MA program.
