Tyler is a very "American" name, but I can’t imagine kids of any English speaking nationality teasing him for that name. I say that because Tyler was on the top 10 list of boys’ names in the US for years. Tyler is an occupational surname, like Archer, Sawyer, Chandler, Hunter, or Taylor. I have a Spencer myself, which is originally from ‘dispenser of provisions.’ Believe me, your sister may not like the name, but she doesn’t have a clue: no none will tease him. Ty is a very appealing nickname! I say, use the name you love, your sister’s reason not to is ridiculous.
