Why am I asked how much money I currently make when applying for a job through a contracting company?
When applying for a job with a contracting company, they typically like to ask you how much money you currently make, along with what you are "looking" to make at your next job. What business is it of theirs how much you currently make. It really has no bearring on what your skills are, and what you are looking to make at your next position.

They want to know because then they’ll know they can offer you a little higher than that without going too much higher. They don’t want to pay you too much so it doesn’t eat into their profits.
You’d better answer truthfully because they can call up your employer and verify your salary.
